Thursday’s American League Capsules

NEW YORK(AP) —CC Sabathia(notes) pitched one-hit ball for eight innings to earn his major league-leading 19th win, fill-in Curtis Granderson(notes) homered twice and New York beat Oakland 5-0 on Thursday for a four-game sweep.
Sabathia (19-5) gave up Mark Ellis’(notes) clean single leading off the football jersey
second. Jonathan Albaladejo(notes) completed the combined one-hitter in the ninth.
Granderson hit a solo homer and a two-run shot as a replacement for Nick Swisher(notes), who left after one inning because of a stiff left knee. Jorge Posada(notes) also homered a day after an animated ejection, propelling the Yankees to their sixth straight victory.

Dallas Braden(notes) (9-10) left in the sixth inning with heat-related cramps. He allowed two hits and slowly walked off trailing 1-0. He was coming off a four-hit shutout at Texas.
Red Sox 6, Orioles 4=
BALTIMORE (AP) - Adrian Beltre(notes) homered to spark a five-run second inning, and Boston salvaged a .500 road trip.
David Ortiz(notes) drove in two runs and J.D. Drew(notes) had three hits for the Red Sox, who moved within 6 1/2 games of idle Tampa Bay in the AL wild-card race.
Boston dropped two of three on the road against the Rays, then lost in Baltimore on Tuesday before winning two straight.
After missing his last start with a sore back, Daisuke Matsuzaka(notes) (9-4) gave up four runs in 5 2-3 innings. Jonathan Papelbon(notes) worked the ninth for his 35th save.
Baltimore starter Brad Bergesen(notes) (6-10) gave up five runs, two earned, eight hits and a career-high five walks in 5 1-3 innings.
Tigers 10, Twins 9, 13 innings=
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Gerald Laird(notes) hit Cleveland Browns jersey
a solo home run in the 13th inning for Detroit.
Ryan Raburn(notes) added three hits and two RBIs after entering the game in the sixth inning for the injured Miguel Cabrera(notes) and Jose Valverde(notes) (2-3) pitched a career-high three innings of relief to help the Tigers avoid a three-game sweep.
Laird, who entered the game in the 11th inning, homered off Nick Blackburn(notes) (8-9).
Blackburn was scheduled to start the series opener against Texas on Friday night.
Danny Valencia(notes) had three hits and two RBIs for the Twins, who led 7-3 going into the eighth and 9-8 in the ninth only to let both leads slip away. They lead the White Sox by 3 1/2 games in the AL Central.
The Tigers left 15 runners on base and the Twins 10 in a game full of missed opportunities at the plate and blunders in the field.
Indians 6, Mariners 3=
SEATTLE (AP) - Shin-Soo Choo(notes) drove in five runs with a bases-loaded double and a two-run home run for Cleveland.
Choo hit a 3-1 fastball from Doug Fister(notes) (4-11) against the right-center-field wall in the Indians’ four-run sixth to score all three runners without a throw.
He added his two-run shot in the ninth to match his season-high for RBIs. Choo had five RBIs against the Chicago White Sox on April 18. Choo leads Cleveland in home runs (16) and RBIs (68).
Asdrubal Cabrera(notes) had three hits for the Indians.
Seattle’s Russell Branyan(notes) hit his Cincinnati Bengals jersey
21st home run, a two-run shot in the third.
Josh Tomlin(notes) (3-3) lasted six innings, allowing seven hits and three runs, striking out five without a walk. Chris Perez(notes) worked the ninth for his 17th save.
